Like all Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, a.k.a. Pepe's pizza pies, this favorite has a "crunch, char and chew" crust topped with native tomatoes, mozzarella, a touch of garlic, basil, grated cheese and a "kiss" of imported olive oil.
Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is known for its pizzas baked in a coal-fired brick oven.
The pizza makers use Frank Pepe’s original 1925 recipe of fresh ingredients and bake them in "brick-by-brick duplicates of his ovens, including iron castings from the original mold," said Gary Bimonte, co-owner and grandson of Pepe's founder.
Other famous Pepe's pies are White Clam Pizza and Anchovy Pie.
Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana has locations at 59 Danbury Road in Danbury and 238 State St. Ext. in Fairfield and 1955 Central Ave. in Yonkers.
